Simple math, or is it geography?

Up until the start of Midnight Madness on January 23rd, we will be posting puzzles twice a week to keep you primed. Starting with the puzzle released January 1st, the first five teams with the correct answer will each receive $10 off their entry. Here is the first one:

Baileyville, IL – Dolton, IL = 588 = Blackfoot, ID – ?

Because this is the first puzzle on the new site, I will give you one hint: It is not Fairbanks, Alaska.
